Role Responsibility:

Purpose of Role

 The main purpose of the role is to develop and protect the reputation of G4S by positively influencing the opinions and behaviours of key stakeholder groups. This will include contributing to Group wide communications (annual report, CSR report, international magazine, global case studies) and by identifying and sharing communication best practice across the region.


Key Performance Areas

1.Create Communications plan for the region

  • Interpret the current views and perceptions of key stakeholders groups and to develop communications plans to positively influence their opinions and behaviours in line with the group values and the delivery of group strategy across the Africa region.
  • Produce a Communication plan and ensure the on time implementation of all actions on the plan

2.Manage External Communication/ Marketing to customers

  • Protect the reputation of G4S Africa
  • Create external publications (e.g. advertisements, case studies and magazines)
  • Co-ordinate sponsorships, events, media relations, etc.
  • Support sales efforts in generating new business

3.Manage Internal Communication to employees

  • Ensure that businesses across the Africa region have effective employee communications plans in place
  • Develop and implement multi-country or divisional/regional employee communications plans.
  • Co-ordinate regional management conferences and events
  • Ensure accurate, creative communication platforms to employees (e.g. Management emails, Newsletters)

4.Manage Media Relations

  • Build relationships with key journalists and media outlets across the Africa region
  • Maximise the positive media coverage achieved across the region
  • To act as a spokesperson for the region and to position other senior management as experts in specific fields (e.g. functions or sectors)

5.Conduct Market Research and Analysis

  • Undertake market research and analysis in line with the group strategy across the region
  • Co-ordinate market and sector analysis in relation to specific projects within the Africa region
  • Co-ordinate customer satisfaction research and feedback within the Africa region

6. Manage Crisis Communications and Brand

  • Defend the region’s reputation and to successfully manage crisis situations which occur across the Africa region
  • Ensure consistent application of the company's brand and compliance with group’s corporate identity guidelines across the Africa region

7.Manage Digital Communications

  • Co-ordinate the delivery of the digital communications strategy across the Africa region to ensure that businesses make the best use of technology for key marketing and stakeholder communications activities (e.g. country web site & intranet development, social media and online marketing)
  • Develop division-wide or region-wide digital communications (e.g. intranet) where appropriate 

8.Manage Corporate Social Responsibility

  • To co-ordinate and promote the group’s CSR programs across the Africa region


  • To work with the group to maximise the potential of group-wide sponsorship program across the Africa region
  • Coordinating and marketing sponsorship program initiated within the Africa region 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification from an accredited institution in the field of Marketing and/or Communications
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Marketing and Communications Manager, ideally within the Security Industry
  • A successful track record in the development and implementation of medium and long term Marketing, Branding and Communication strategies across diverse markets in Africa (or equivalent emerging markets).
  • Managing diverse internal communication initiatives, working with colleagues and suppliers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Written, verbal and non-verbal communication, specifically in English, and ideally in French and Portuguese
  • Flexibility and adaptability to rapid environmental changes
  • Problem analysis and resolution
  • Self-confident and well-rounded, with the capacity to understand multiple perspectives and cultural diversity and deal with those differences diplomatically.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic and likeable
