Job Introduction:

The Head of Health & Safety is a key member of the Leadership Team within G4S with essential strategic responsibility for safety. The role is accountable for delivering a highly professional and thorough framework of world class safety standards across the whole business. They will also be responsible for transforming the performance and behaviour of all employees by driving a safety culture through senior management

Role Responsibility:

  • Act as the lead competent person for Health & Safety for G4S Cash Solutions
  • Support, develop and deliver the health and safety strategy for the business
  • Understanding and implementation of  BS OHSAS 18001 and ISO 45001
  • Drive a safety culture utilising specialist skills and knowledge and influencing senior managers to ensure safety is a high priority across the business
  • Develop, deploy and maintain the Safety Management System for G4S Cash Solutions
  • Advise the Executive and Senior Management team on the implications of current and emerging health, safety and welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating actions plans to ensure compliance across the organisation
  • Ensure the company’s Health & Safety policy is up to date and consistently implemented
  • Deliver expert support to serious incident investigations within the business confirming causal factor identification is accurate and remedial actions implemented and effective
  • Deliver an effective framework of incident investigation, auditing and training oversight with primary focus on action closure
  • Monitor evolving H&S legislation, influencing policy makers and developing pragmatic solutions that allow G4S Cash Solutions to meet the requirements of the authorities 
  • Deliver expert support and advice in the implementation of the safety programme, initiatives and action plans.
  • Deliver safety support, coaching and advice to operational managers on embedding agreed safety standards and practice in all aspects of their operational delivery
  • Assist in the identification of health and safety related training needs and, in conjunction with the HR and Training team, ensure training is delivered appropriately
  • Actively support and guide effective consultation between management and nominated safety representatives
  • Maintain an effective relationship for business safety matters within the regulator / enforcing authority
  • Act as the focal point for all safety communications for the business
  • Deliver a suite of agreed safety performance metrics against which performance and change activity will be measured and evaluated
  • Ensure effective integration of safety matters within the operating plan.
  • Coach and mentor managers on delivering safety as an integral aspect of all activity
  • Actively support managers in the deployment of safety leadership as a core skill
  • Ensure compliance with current health and safety legislation and approved codes of practice
  • Work with professionalism, honesty and integrity, maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Treat people fairly, with respect, impartiality and consistency and embrace the Company values
  • Promote a positive external perception of the business and take steps to protect and enhance the brand and reputation

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential

  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • An operations/logistics or behavioural based degree would be a distinct advantage
  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent professional safety body
  • 5  years’ experience at senior leadership level
  • Experience of working with a Primary Authority
  • Financially literate with a sound understanding of budgetary control
  • Detailed understanding and application of effective safety management techniques with a primary focus on risk management
  • Proficient understanding of behavioural based safety approaches
  • Appreciates range of communication approaches appropriate for safety engagement
  • Knowledge of access channels to external sources of information advice and guidance
  • Exposure to highly complex organisation structures and frameworks in a unionised setting
