Job Introduction:

Role Responsibility:

This post is available within the Learning and Skills Department at HMP & YOI Parc. 
 
The post holder will manage and develop Higher and Further education across the prison estate. You will be expected to work closely with operation managers to develop a further education wing. Foster good partnerships with relevant staff both internally and externally plus outside agencies to ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of the organisation and inspecting bodies. You will be expected to effectively manage coordinators; teachers and administrative   staff within you direct line management and facilitate professional, vocational and degree level qualifications with the aim of preparing learners for further education and employment on release.  You will provide support and guidance to learners undertaking FE blended learning programmes of study, making sure the quality of teaching reflects the aspirations and ambitions of the individuals undertaking their courses.  You will work collaboratively other senior managers and curriculum mangers to continue to increase the high standards and quality of delivery within the very progressive area and introduce new and   innovative projects to maintain its excellence. 
 
Key responsibilities and main proses of the role:
 
To manage all staff in the Further Education and ICT Curriculum area. To manage the curriculum; which includes the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of relevant courses.  
Facilitating the  Researching and developing new topics, courses and teaching materials for a wide range of qualifications
To ensure that all preparation, marking, assessment and moderation of the team is completed promptly and efficiently within agreed timescales
To ensure that teaching sessions and tutorials on a group/one-to-one basis with learners and planning additional support for students, as necessary e.g. Open University tutorials – face to face/telephone are  satisfactorily   and promptly carried out 
To ensure that classroom efficiency within the curriculum is maintained
To operate effective arrangements for monitoring attendance and retention and achievement of learners, including necessary follow-up actions.
To ensure assessment and accreditation is relevant to the requirements of the awarding body and learner.
Monitor and analyse all MIS data and set related action points for improvement
Participate in the Teaching and Learning Observations 
To carry out EDRs and Bi-lats setting and monitoring targets/action points.
To continually review changes in requirements for taught subject areas and CPD implementing these changes in practice.
Manage sickness and attendance through 100% return to work interviews, face to face interviews and contact within given time frame.
Maintain close links with External bodies/agencies etc 
Chair weekly team briefings, disseminating/communicating relevant information to all staff.
Produce a quarterly report
Contribute to the Self-Assessment Report and action plan of the Learning and Skills Department.
Contribute to the Quality Dev plan of the department
Any other task as directed by Head of Learning and Skill

The Ideal Candidate:

Formal Education:
 
Qualified Teacher Status or PGCE
Professional experience and subject specific degree
 
Experience (Essential)
 
Experience of facilitation of Further Education and Distance Learning within a prison
Knowledge of the Open University and Prisoner’s Education Trust  
Experience of working with adults experiencing on higher level courses
Experience  of managing or overseeing a team or department 
 
Experience Desirable:
 
Experience of working with adults experiencing behavioural problems
Experience in a Prison environment – desirable
