The Close Protection Operator - Tier 2 Medic will support the CPO Team Leader (CPO TL) in the command and control of individual High and Low Profile CPO missions in Africa.  The CPO in the absence of the CPO TL and under the command of the Programme Manager will be responsible for the smooth running of the operation by applying sound leadership principles and judgement at all times. 

Role Responsibility:

  1. To support the CPO TL in the command and control of the operation, to ensure that team members are adequately informed, skilled, equipped and supervised to conduct their duties safely, in compliance with the Host Nation’s rules and regulations, G4S policies and SOPs.
  2. Ensure all medical equipment is maintained in an operational condition.
  3. Maintain all equipment and medicines in a sterile state before ‘use by date’.
  4. Provide immediate emergency medical support (Trauma or Primary Care) to personnel.
  5. Liaise with specialist medical departments such as air support and evacuation teams.
  6. Maintain contemporary knowledge of clinical guidelines and treatment advancements.
  7. Demonstrate Continuous Professional Development of medical skills and treatment techniques. 
  8. Take on the full responsibilities of Team Leader when on leave or if deemed necessary.
  9. Ensurethat G4S Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are followed at all times.
  10. Gatherand analyse information / intelligence required for the planning, rehearsal and safe execution of a CPO mission.
  11. Submit, in time, the required documentation for the approval of CPO missions according to G4S SOPsand the Host Nation’s rules and regulations.
  12. Liaise/ meet with the client in an appropriate manner.
  13. Prepare and conduct briefings to CPO team members, client(s) and Management during the planning and execution of a CPO mission.
  14. Report all incidents according to the Host Nation’s rules and regulations, G4S policy and SOPs.
  15. Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  16. Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the CPO.  Where appropriate escalate these to TL for visibility.
  17. Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise CPO team members, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
  18. Assist the TL to Plan, coordinate, administrate and execute the day to day team administration and training.
  19. Accurately compile and on time submit the required CPO team returns.
  20. Conduct performance evaluations as per G4S directives and mentor all personnel through formal channels.
  21. Maintain a high standard of welfare, morale and discipline within the team.
  22. Execute any other tasks commensurate to the CPO DTL's role as deemed appropriate by the TL.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualifications in English and Mathematics or Military education equivalent
  • SIA licence holder desirable
  • Recognised PSD course
  • Must hold one of the following:
    • HPC Registered Paramedic or equivalent
    • HSE Offshore Medic Certificate
    • Registered Nurse with critical care qualification


  • Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)
  • Minimum 12 months experience working in hostile environments.
  • Experience training of multi-national personnel.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in UK or Commonwealth Military Forces or Ambulance Services with operational and medical experience in a hostile environment.
  • English must be first language.
  • Excellent written English communication skills.
  • Able to demonstrate the physical aspects of casualty evacuation wearing body armour and medical equipment.
  • Proven supervision skills and the ability to work unsupervised and under pressure in a fast paced, high risk environment.
  • Proven IT skills in all Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Access, Word & Power Point).
  • Anticipate requirements, conduct forward planning.
  • Proven safe weapon handling skills.
  • Able to provide training to all team members in trauma and life support.
