Job Introduction:

We are currently recruiting for Casual Court and Custody Officer positions at the Melbourne Custody Centre.

The primary responsibility of a Court and Custody Officer is the provision of quality services to prisoners and the security of prisoners, staff, judiciary and the public within the Melbourne Custody Centre and Court Complex.

Role Responsibility:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervising the behaviour and activities of the prisoners in the Melbourne Custody Centre
  • Interacting with the prisoners and respond to their needs
  • Monitoring and maintaining the dynamic and static security requirements of the Melbourne Custody Centre
  • Reporting orally and in writing, any unusual behaviours or occurrences which could result in a breach of security
  • Participating in the reception, induction and transfer of prisoners
  • Assisting with the supervision of prisoner visits
  • Escorting prisoners within the Melbourne Custody Centre to the Courts and from the Melbourne Custody Centre to external venues as required
  • Assist in the processing of prisoners entering and leaving Melbourne Custody Centre

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have the ability to manage stressful situations effectively
  • Demonstrate well-developed written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrate basic levels of computer literacy
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the relevant legislation or an ability to acquire such knowledge 

In addition, candidates must obtain satisfactory results in the following:

  • Security check including finger prints
  • National Police Clearance
  • Approval from the Victoria Police for employment
